Export GH2 MTS to Apple ProRes for FCP Editing and Compressor for DVD Studio Pro on Mac
Convert GH2 MTS to FCP with Compressor for DVD SP with Final Mate for Mac and Final Cut Studio on mac
With the 1080p 24Mbps MTS HD videos shot by Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2, do you want to burn them to DVD disc? The Panasonic PHOTOfunSTUDIO 6.0 BD Edition is only compatible with Windows, and there are some free windows applications like imgBurn to free burn videos to DVD disc. But for Mac users, The DVD creating and burning process will be much more complicated. After google search, I found best solution around is to use Apple Compressor and DVD Studio Pro, which is included in Final Cut Studio.
The workflow is: convert GH2 24Mbps MTS with Final Mate for Mac, then import and edit MTS on Final Cut Pro and send to Apple Compressor and send to DVD Studio for authoring, them burn from DVD Studio on my internal DVD drive.
Follow the quick steps below to Export GH2 MTS to Apple ProRes for FCP Editing and Compressor for DVD Studio Pro on Mac.
Step 1. Capture .mts files from Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 to Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac.
Connect your Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 camcorder to Mac computer with USB cable. Then launch Final Mate for Mac from Application folder. With smart camcorder wizard included in Final Mate for Mac, you can easily capture MTS files from camcorder to hard drive or to the program for basic editing.
Step2. Create a Movie for converting Panasonic GH2 1080p MTS or 720p AVCHD Lite files to ProRes.
There are two ways for you to create a Movie for converting imported 1080p MTS or 720p AVCHD Lite files.
- The easiest one is dragging and dropping displayed MTS files from Camcorder Tab area to a single Movie.
- Another way is clicking the drop-down button of “Add Movie” icon and choose “For Conversion” to create a blank movie. And then drag and drop the video clips from Camcorder Tab to the blank movie in Movies Tab. In this way, all video clips will be merged as one single movie for conversion.
Step 3. Export ProRes video file for Final Cut Pro.
Click the Export button and choose “Export into Editor”. Follow Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 HQ (*.mov) to choose output format for editing in Final Cut Pro. Finally click OK to start converting Panasonic 1080p/720p MTS files to ProRes.The conversion from Panasonic GH2 1080/24p MTS to 720p MTS for Apple ProRes MOV will start immediately, keeping the 5.1-channel surround sound.
Step 4. Choose Apple Compressor after Final Cut Pro editing.
Run Final Cut Pro which is available with Final Cut Studio, use File > Import > Files to choose the ProRes .mov after the completion of the conversion to the Final Cut Pro for editing. Once you’re finished with your markers, click File -> Send to -> Compressor.
Step 5. Load video to Apple Compressor.
Within Compressor, open the Settings window, and open Apple -> DVD -> DVD Best Quality 120 minutes (of course, if your event is less than 90 minutes, you can use the 90 minutes setting). And Set the Dolby Digital 5.1 as audio.
Step 6: Import the Compressor Videos to DVD Studio Pro.
Once Compressor is finished, open up DVD Studio Pro. Go to Window -> Configurations, and make sure Advanced is selected. This will show you all the windows you’ll need to see to get the job done.
Step 7: Burn DVD with DVD Studio Pro.
To burn videos to DVD with DVD Studio Pro with ease,you can drag directly from the Finder into the open Track in the Graphical view when DVD Studio Pro opens, set the track as the first play, and hit burn, it is a grand total of 3 clicks and seven seconds. DVD Studio Pro can be much more complex, but it can also be very simple.
